Flea and tick season is upon us
The warmer weather and early snow melt means an earlier flea and tick season.
As I mentioned in my last post dogs love spring. It's a great time to enjoy our City dog parks now that the ice pack has melted. This unfortunately means that the dog parks and even your own garden have become a breeding ground for ticks and fleas.
Both fleas and ticks can live cocooned on feral animals throughout the winter and will transfer to grass and leafy areas as the weather becomes warmer.
Dog parks are an ideal breeding ground as the grass may be longer and the shrub areas may not be as well tended as your own garden.
The best way to avoid fleas and ticks is to properly protect your dog. Pet MD recommends treating your dog for fleas and ticks year round even considering our harsh winters.
Fleas and ticks are always referred to together however, they are very different. Here's the differences.
